Thane is a city just outside Mumbai, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It’s known as the ‘City of Lakes’, and its more than 30 lakes include tree-lined Upvan Lake, a popular recreational spot. Beside Talao Pali Lake, Kopineshwar Mandir is an old, domed Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. To the west, leopards, monkeys and parakeets inhabit the teak forest and bamboo groves of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Upvan (or Upavan) Lake is located in Thane in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
It is known for hosting the Sanskruti Arts Festival. 
Here one can also view thousands of Ganpati idols which are brought here for immersion on final day of Ganeshotsav. 
It was founded and reconstructed by J.K. Singhania for water supply. Singhania also constructed the lord Ganesha's temple at Upvan lake. The lake is located near Gawand Baug, Shivai Nagar,Ganesh nagar, Vasant Vihar and Vartak nagar. 
This is one of the recreational areas for people who live in Thane. 
It is one of the biggest lakes in Thane, surrounded by Yeoor Hills, and lies in the Pokhran-II area. 
One of the eco friendly lake of city, Upvan Lake is regarded as Thane's ‘lover's paradise’. 
Upvan lake forms a junction of the Pokhran I and Pokhran II roads. Once, the major source of water for the entire Thane city, Upvan lake is now used primarily for recreation. The official residence of the Mayor of Thane Municipal Corporation lies adjacent to the lake.

Masunda Lake, also known as Talavpali Lake, is a lake situated in Thane , India. It is considered to be among the most picturesque lakes in the state of Maharashtra. The lake is home to a small island with a Shiv temple on it.

Earlier the Masunda Lake extended up to the Kopineshwar Mandir in the east but in the 1950s, the construction of a new road drastically reduced its area.

Masunda lake is approximately about 15 minutes walking distance from the Thane railway station. The lake is also a favourite amongst the locals for evening leisure and recreational activities like boating.

Kelwa Beach, also known as Kelva or Kelwe Beach, is a beach in Maharashtra, India. It is a popular weekend getaway for tourists from Mumbai.

The beach is about 8 kilometres long. Although not a very famous tourist attraction, the beach is overcrowded with local tourists during weekends, which indicates its growing popularity.

Kelwa Beach is situated about 80 kilometres north of Mumbai. It is easily accessible from the Kelve Road station situated about 5 kilometres away. It is also a 25-minute ride on an 8-seater rickshaw from Palghar. It is around 13 kilometers from the highway. Kelwa Beach is also connected by state transport buses which make frequent trips from Palghar or Saphale and Kelwa Road Station.

There are two forts on this beach. One is at the southern tip of the beach and is submerged in sea water during high tides. The smaller one is located within the coniferous trees near the northern tip on the beach.
